PHILOSOPHY
The Nursery School at CCPC has two main goals: to develop strong feelings of self-worth and to develop good feelings about "school". The program is developmentally oriented. Activities are alternated between active and quiet, directed and non-directed which are the natural rhythms of the preschool child. Activities are planned in the areas of reading readiness, math readiness, fine and gross motor development, socialization, music, art, language, social studies, science and problem solving. Large classrooms, special rooms such as the gross motor room, a large playground area, and the surrounding community for field trips give the staff many opportunities to facilitate a rich program of stimulation and exploration.
STAFF
The Nursery School at CCPC’S 3 year-old and 4 year-old programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. Each class has a qualified teacher and an assistant teacher as its basic team. Each teacher has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. In addition, there are two administrative staff members available to support activities and a Music Teacher. Occasionally, parents help out in the classroom. CCPC Nursery School is affiliated with the Bowie Therapeutic Nursery Center and receives consultation services from special educators, a social worker, and a psychologist.
