Missions
Christian Community Presbyterian Church (CCPC) is a mission-oriented church. We believe spiritual growth is manifested through the practical application of the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Mission Council is the link between the resources of CCPC and the needs of the local, regional, national, and world communities. We at CCPC are called to minister to those who have never had the opportunity to experience God’s love and grace, to those who are poor in spirit, and to those in need of a helping hand or an encouraging word in times of trouble.

Warm Nights
As a part of program coordinated by Community Crisis Services, CCPC houses men, women, and children for a week who are seeking food and shelter during winter months. Many volunteers from our congregation serve breakfast and dinner, prepare lunches, do laundry, and stay overnight to assist our guests. CCPC has participated in this program for two decades. Listening to the stories of our guests helps us to be mindful of the richness of our blessings.

Christmas Families
Each year, CCPC shares the abundance that God has provided us with our neighbors during the Christmas season. Families are identified by school counselors. They receive a set of clothing, a gift and school supplies for each child, as well as groceries for a Christmas meal. For 2011, there were 132 families (compared to 59 in 2010) with 362 children (compared to 210 in 2010.)
Many volunteers in the congregation organize the information about each family on individual tags, buy gifts and school supplies for the children, shop for food, wrap presents and clothing, organize food baskets, and help with distribution and delivery. As Christmas draws near, we are thankful for the support of the congregation and community in providing for these families.

CROP Hunger Walk; Walk for the Homeless
CCPC walkers identify sponsors whose pledges support their walks for individuals who are hungry and who are homeless. A quarter of the money collected is used for local projects. CROP Walks are ecumenical, interfaith community events done in partnership with Church World Service to eradicate poverty throughout the world. Approximately four million was returned last year to the local food banks, pantries, and community gardens in the more than 2000 communities that had an organized walk

Living Waters for the World
CCPC is partnering with Living Waters for the World which trains and equips mission teams to share the gift of clean water with communities in need. CCPC participated in Clean Water U in April 2009 to learn how to install water purifying systems and teach villagers about health and hygiene. CCPC's Living Waters for the World team developed relationships with two wonderful organizations, Friends of Barnabas and Salt and Light Ministries. They have installed a water purification system in Barnabas House, which is described at: Friends of Barnabas Foundation: www.fobf.org. Salt and Light Ministries is an additional ministry that organizes construction work, small medical teams for their clinic, children's scholarship programs and sites in Honduran villages for additional water purification systems. Their web site is: www.saltandlightministrie.org/cms/
Both organizations provided educational activities on preventing intestinal illnesses. The CCPC team will make annual trips which will include a third trip to Friends of Barnabas, making sure the system is working correctly. They will look for additional communities to educate on health and hygiene as well as install additional water purification systems. This project, and the children’s scholarship project, are making a difference in people’s lives through a sustainable effort that involves the local community.

Christmas Gift Market
A combined donation to the Medical Benevolence Foundation from the Mission Council and proceeds from the from the 2009 Christmas Gift Market supported clinics and the purchase of medicine and malaria nets. In addition, the proceeds from the 2009 Christmas Gift Market were used to purchase animals to help feed those in need through the Heifer Project. The Christmas Gift Market is organized by CCPC as a way to give heartfelt, alternative gifts to transform poverty into prosperity, hunger into plenty, and sickness into health. Shoppers select gifts from trusted organizations such as Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity, Medical Benevolence Foundation, choosing items such as an animal for a family, a midwife’s training, or seeds and tools. Then they make contributions in honor of friends and loved ones and let the recipient know that contributions for specific items have been made in their honor. More than $10,000 was raised in 2009, close to $16,000 in 2010, and more than $21,000 in 2011. The total amount was contributed to the organizations included in the Christmas Gift Market.
